Technology Services: Security Certificates

Web Browser Issues

To conform with FCC | CIPA https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/childrens-internet-protection-act, and support SafeSearch, while maintaining Internet privacy beyond the San Juan Unified School District network, all web browsers and personal devices, require security certificates to be installed, when using our network.

Please install the certificates that corresponds to your web browser and/or operating system. These instructions are meant to support personal devices, "BYOD" with current operating systems and web browsers distributed by Microsoft, Apple, Google and FireFox. There are too many variations to document all situations. Please call Technology Services, 916-971-7195 for further assistance.

Please note: the links below are only accessible from within the SJUSD intranet.

Please select from the following options:

Handheld Device Graphic

Mobile Device Certificates

Apple iOS Certificate Profile
  1. Tap to download the certificate from the following link:
  2. Certificate link: secure.cer
    1. Tap Install, on the upper right corner of the popup.
    2. If requested, enter your passcode.
    3. Tap Install, on the upper right corner of the popup, once again.
    4. Tap Install, on the verification popup.
    5. Tap Done, to close the popup.
  3. NOTE: This certificate will not be trusted until you enable it in Certificate Trust Settings.
    1. Settings > General > About > Certtificate Trust Settings - on the very bottom of About
    2. Tap the the slider for secure to enable trust.
    3. Tap Continue on the popup.
    4. The slider is now green.
    5. Press the Home button, to exit Settings. You are done.
Google / Samsung Android Certificate
  1. Tap to download the certificate from the following link:
    1. Certificate link: secure.cer
  2. Depending on your phone, for the certificate downloaded:
    1. If prompted, enter your PIN or password and click NEXT
    2. Enter a name for the certificate: SJUSD Secure.
    3. Tap OK - You are done.

  3. If you are not prompted for installation, you will have to install the certificate manually.
  4. NOTE: Perform the following steps to enable the certificate.
  5. The Settings app may vary. These are the most common paths to the correct setting:
    1. Settings > Personal > Security > Credential storage > Install from storage
    2. Settings > Security > Credential storage > Install from storage
    3. Settings > Lock screen and security > Other security settings > Install from device storage
    4. If none of the above settings can be found, please refer to your mobile device manufacturer/provider for the proper instructions
  6. The file can typically be found in the Downloads folder. Select the certificate secure to import it.
    1. If prompted, enter your PIN or password and click NEXT
    2. Enter a name for the certificate: SJUSD Secure.
    3. Tap OK - The certificate is installed.
